Patch-up attempt

Bhubaneswar: The AICC general secretary in charge of Odisha affairs B.K. Hariprasad on Wednesday tried to broker a truce between the Congress Legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra and Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan. He held a meeting with the two leaders. However, the outcome of the meeting was not disclosed to the media.  

Mercury dip

Bhubaneswar: The minimum temperature across the state has dipped continually with the regional meteorological centre here recording the season’s lowest temperature of 9.5°C in Phulabani on Wedneday. Daringbadi and Bhawanipatna followed with temperatures of 10.5°C.

Political clash

Bhubaneswar: Youth Congress supporters were beaten up by BJD workers for waving black flags at local MLA Ranendra Pratap Singh and urban development minister Puspendra Singh Deo on Wednesday, sparking tension in the area. 

Four killed

Cuttack: Four members of a family, identified as Santosh Gouda, 40, his wife Kokina, 35, son Krushna, 7, and daughter Mama, 5, were killed in an accident near Berhampur on Wednesday.

Three dead

Khurda: In a series of accidents caused by a car, three people died and as many injured in Khurda district on Wedneday. After hitting a bike, the car hit a trolley from the rear. The incident occurred on the National Highway 16 at Cuttack Town Chhak.

Rural polls

Bhubaneswar: Panchayat polls will be held on schedule in the state’s 30 districts, said panchayatiraj department secretary D.K. Singh on Wednesday. However, Singh said the panchayats where redistribution of boundaries were going on will be excluded from the elections. Zilla parishad elections will be held in 24 districts. Decision for the remaining six districts will be taken later, added Singh.

Poachers held

Khurda: Wildlife officers on Wednesday arrested two poachers and seized 10 migratory birds from them in Chilika in Khurda district. The two poachers were nabbed with the dead birds from Balipatna Ring Road .

Insurance

Bhubaneswar: Chief secretary A.P. Padhi on Wednesday directed officials to create awareness among the farmers on health insurance under the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana to facilitate their treatment.
