Naveen directive on jobs

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed officials of all departments to ensure jobs for the kin of deceased state government employees within four months or face punitive action. This will also be applicable for the kin of martyrs.

Dhauli show

Bhubaneswar: The light-and-sound show at Dhauli peace pagoda, which was to be inaugurated by chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday, was cancelled in view of the state mourning announced for the demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. The date for the inauguration will be announced later.

Utkal reaction

Bhubaneswar: The state unit of National Students' Union of India on Tuesday condemned the violent attack on two persons, including a student of Utkal University, on Saturday and held the university administration and police responsible for the frequent disturbances on the campus. 

Urea quota

Bhubaneswar:  Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday wrote to the Union minister of chemicals and fertilisers Ananth Kumar to enhance the allocation of urea from 1.4 lakh tonnes to to 1.75 lakh tonnes for August. Odisha has received good rainfall in June and July and agricultural operations are on in full swing. This has resulted in the increased demand for fertilizers, Naveen wrote.

Railway drive

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur railway division has earned Rs 97,715 through the massive ticket-checking drive in the Titlagarh-Therubali and Titlahagrh-Mahasamund sections on Monday.

Bribe cuffs

Berhampur: Vigilance officials have arrested Gyana Ranjan Swain, assistant sub-inspector of police at Gopalpur police station for demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from Kishore Chandra Gouda of Badakusasthali.
