CBI raids

Bhubaneswar: The CBI is conducting raids on 16 premises of Shine India Agro Industries Limited, a deposit collection company. Sources said searches were conducted at two offices and 10 residential premises.

Mob-cop clash

Puri: Police on Saturday faced the ire of local residents when officials went to cut trees in the Sipa Sarubali Samuka project area on the beach. When the local people opposed the cutting of trees, the police resorted to lathicharge. The crowd retaliated by pelting the cops with stones. Three police officials and 20 local residents were injured. A dozen people were arrested in this connection.

Tax panel

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Saturday constituted a committee to examine problems related to the imposition of value added tax on various cereals, including dal, wheat and other products. The committee has been asked to submit its report within three months.
