Naveen directive

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday instructed his officers to construct at least three roads under the Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana that aims to connect villages with 100 or more population. 

Liquor arrest

Kendrapara: Three bootleggers were nabbed from Chapalli village on Tuesday within Mahakalpada police station jurisdiction for their involvement in illicit liquor trade.

Milk strike

Berhampur: Milk supply by Odisha State Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Omfed) in Ganjam and Gajapati districts was disrupted as the workers of the dairy plant of Omfed at Ankushpur on the outskirts of Berhampur had been on strike since past two days demanding permanent appointment.

Clerk held

Berhampur: Vigilance officers arrested Deba Purohit, junior clerk at the office of the district education officer of Boudh, for demanding bribe of Rs 10,000 from Umakanta Dehuri, a Sanskrit teacher, to process the file for his reinstatement. 

Shootout arrest 

Paradip: Two criminals involved in an extortion-related shootout in Paradip were arrested in a joint operation by Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur police. The extortionists - Seikh Tabrez and Seikh Mustaque - had opened fire at a market place in Paradip Port Township last month. 

Suicide

Sambalpur: A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Santinagar under Ainthapali police station jurisdiction on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Srikanta Naik, 30. Family members of the deceased who were out of town found him dead when they returned home.

Sweeping 

Bhubaneswar:  The municipal corporation has decided to engage mechanical sweeping machine to clean roads in the city. As the corporation could not decide whether the dust collected by the machine would be called silt or solid waste, the sources said it would be called solid waste and a private firm would be paid Rs 2,500 per tonne. 

Road mishap

Paradip: Two persons were killed when a speeding lorry ran over their motorcycle near Kalarapat traffic junction on the Cuttack-Paradip state highway. Identity of the deceased persons are yet to be established. Both of them died on the spot.
