Rape attempt

Balasore: Basta police arrested a person in connection with the rape attempt on a 20-year-old woman. The accused is a 55-year-old man. 

Body found

Sambalpur: Gouri Gardia, 26, was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her house in Modipara on Saturday. Gouri was married and was working in a commercial establishment. 

Poachers held

Kendrapara:  Bhitarkanika National Park personnel have taken into custody three members of an organised deer-poaching racket. They have also seized raw spotted deer meat, antlers and hides. 

Bear dead

Baripada: A female bear was found dead in Bahalda forest range of Mayurbhanj on Friday. Her cub, which was found near the body,  was rescued by the forest department and is  kept under observation.

Protocol panel

Bhubaneswar: A protocol committee of the Assembly was constituted on Saturday to review the behaviour of bureaucrats towards elected people’s representatives. BJD legislator Nrusingha Charan Sahu will head the seven-member panel. The other members are Debashis Samantray, Bibhuti Harichandan, Prafulla Majhi, Mayadhar Jena, Bijaya Mohanty and Manohar Randhari.
During the recently held budget session of the Assembly, members cutting across party lines had alleged that bureaucrats in the state government were not paying due respect to the people’s representatives.

Liquor protest

Bhubaneswar: Liquor traders surrounded the Khurda depot on Saturday demanding regular supply of beer and liquor to their shops. Police had to intervene to ease the tension. The liquor traders' association said they were facing problems because of the shortage of beer. The crisis started after manufacturing companies stopped the supply of beer protesting against the government's decision to reduce the offer price of beer by 20 per cent and 10 per cent on IMFL.

Bhubaneswar: A 24x7 news channel Kalinga TV, owned by the KIIT Group, was launched on Saturday by  chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Information and public relations minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and singer, actress and television anchor Raageshwari Loomba were present on the occasion.
