Lens on driver

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Monday traced movable and immovable property worth over Rs 1 crore 
during a search operation at the house of one Gulam Hyder Ali. 

Ali works with a traffic training institute as a driver and was alleged to possess disproportionate assets. His properties include three houses, cash worth Rs 21 lakh and gold weighing 250gm. 

Torture cuffs

Berhampur: Laxmi Nahak, a ward member of J. Dengapadar and her daughters were arrested for allegedly torturing her daughter-in-law Mala Nahak, 21, for dowry. Mala is hospitalised with burn injuries.

NCERT proposal

Bhubaneswar: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed changes in the CBSE curriculum, said director Hrushikesh Senapati at a press briefing here on Monday. “NCERT has already prepared its report on the new education policy and submitted it to the Drafting Committee for its approval,” he said.   

Nalco move

Bhubaneswar: The public sector National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has decided to felicitate folk artistes from the state with cash awards during the company's upcoming foundation day celebrations. Nalco chairman Tapan Kumar Chand announced the decision during the 15th Nimapara Mahotsav.

Farmer death

Kendrapara: A farmer died on Monday in an accident in his field at Charigaon village under Nikiai police station. The victim, Sarat Mallik, 45, came under a tiller when he tried to lift the machine, which was stuck in the field. The blades pierced his stomach, thigh and knee. He was taken to Kendrapara district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
