Polavaram project

Berhampur: CPM state secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to convene an all-party meeting on the controversial Polavaram project. Patnaik  also suggested a concerted effort by all the parties of Odisha to lodge a strong fight against the project that will affect irrigation in the state.

Chess win

Bhubaneswar: Odisha woman Grandmaster Kumari Kiran Manisha Mohanty won the 5th and 6th round matches in the ongoing Bhubaneswar All India Fide Rating Chess Championship for Women-2015 being held at Infocity campus in Patia. The championship will end on December 15.

Beach festival

Balasore: Talsari Beach Festival will be held from January 27. For the five-day event, a preparatory meeting was held under the chairmanship of MLA  Ananta Das. The meeting was also attended by the district collector, superintendent of police and senior officers of various departments.

Theatre contest

Sambalpur: The seven-day state-level Sambalpuri theatre competition will begin from December 24. Around 21 plays will be staged at the Aranyak Mancha in the city as part of the competition, which is being organised by a socio-cultural organisation called Yuba Udayan.
