Plus II exam

Bhubaneswar: The annual Plus II examination, conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, will begin from March 2 and continue till March 29. Like last year, the practical examination will be held between January 20 and 30 — ahead of the theory papers. Examination for vocational courses will start from March 18 and continue till March 29.

CM on paddy

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday had a conversation with Union food supplies and consumer welfare minister Ram Vilas Paswan requesting to order lifting of paddy on priority basis. With the harvesting season approaching, it has become necessary to empty the godowns so that new paddy can be stored.

HC order

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday ordered a CID-Crime Branch probe into an alleged land scam involving recording of around 2.29 acres of government land at Gopalpur, on the banks of Kathajodi river in the name of private persons. The division bench of Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice Subash Chandra Parija directed the CID to conduct the investigation and submit a report within three months.

Housing move

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked the state administration to make available land to construct affordable houses for urban residents. While reviewing the progress of AWAS Mission under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which would see 45,000 affordable houses constructed in the state, Naveen asked revenue and other line departments to provide land in time. 

Courtesy call

Bhubaneswar: Former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma on Friday called on chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Sources termed the meeting a courtesy call. 

Assault charge

Angul: District BJP president Ashok Kumar Mohanty was arrested on Friday for allegedly misbehaving with Kaniha block development officer (BDO) Seshdev Mishra. On November 2, BJP workers and local farmers, led by Mohanty, manhandled Mishra and locked him up during a gherao over increasing farmer suicides and drought-like situation. The BDO has lodged a police case against Mohanty. 

Two arrested

Sambalpur: Police on Friday arrested Jagmohan Kuanr, the sarpanch of Rusuda gram panchayat under Tusura Block in Balangir district. He had allegedly demanded gratification of Rs 10,000 from one Anirudha Nag of Barla village to pursue the executive officer and block development officer to issue work order for construction of a house under the Indira Awas Yojna. Besides the sarpanch, the police also arrested betel shop owner Nabakishore Majhi of the same village for abetting the crime. 

Probe demand

Cuttack: Family members of Makhunu Bag on Friday pressed for an impartial probe into his alleged custodial death at Bheden police station in Bargarh district.
