Cops on Facebook

Puri: Town police created its Facebook page on Tuesday to receive suggestions and complaints of residents ahead of Nabakalebar. Residents and tourists can post on the Facebook page — Puri Police. 

Besides, the police today installed five complain or suggestion boxes at Singhadwar, the railway station, the bus stand, Digabarini and Gouranga Chhak. Each boxes would also contain the land line telephone number of the Puri superintendent of police (06752-225400), telephone number of the police control room (100) and the toll-free number of the district intelligence bureau of Nabakalebar Cell (1800 200 2524) which would start functioning from December 15.

Racket busted

Bhubaneswar: Lakshmisagar police busted a sex-racket from Manashi hotel on Cuttack Road and rescued three girls on Tuesday. The police have also arrested two customers. However, the hotel manager, who is the kingpin of the racket, managed to escape.

Fishermen held

Kendrapara: Forest personnel have arrested eight fishermen for illegal fishing activity along the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary. The trawler used was seized.

Gang busted  

Cuttack: Police  busted a criminal gang involved in a series of extortion and robbery in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Paradip and across the state. Four members of the newly formed gang have been arrested. Two pistols, one revolver and 21 rounds of bullets and four mobile phones have been seized.

Bhubaneswar:  Police arrested Mahendra Patra and Seikh Alamin on Tuesday for allegedly attacking Odisha Auxiliary Police Force official Abhiram Kanhar on Monday night at Malisahi in Kharvel Nagar police station area.  

One held 

Bhubaneswar: Police arrested Kumud Dehury, a hotel employee on Tuesday for allegedly stealing Rs 3.56 lakh from the cashbox of the hotel. The police recovered the stolen cash. On December 7, the owner of the hotel had lodged a complaint with the Kharvel Nagar police about the theft. 

Injured

Kendrapara: A fisherman was injured as Coast Guard personnel opened fire at a group of trawlers, which had sneaked into Gahirmatha marine sanctuary. Kendrapara SP Satish Kumar Gajaviye said the injured person has been identified as Ranjit Patra, 36, a native of Jayadurgapatna village in Bhadrak district.
