The bones were seized from the house of Abdul Mazid at Padampur in Jashipur police limits of Mayurbhanj district on January 17.

Jharkhand police, along with their Odisha counterparts and wildlife personnel of the Karanjia division, had carried out raids on his house and seized Rs 14.27 lakh in cash and wildlife articles.

"The seized bones had been sent to Animal Diseases Research Institute, Phulnakhara, to determine the species, their age, sex and so on. But, it returned those, advising us to approach the wildlife institute in Dehradun," said Karanjia divisional forest officer Prasanna Kumar Behera.

"A case was registered against Mazid after 3.5kg of sandalwood as well as claws and scales of pangolin had been seized from his house. Effort is on to collect more evidences against the poacher," he said.

Chainbasha police conducted the raids on Mazid's house after his name and involvement in poaching and smuggling of wildlife trophies had come to the fore during interrogations of five poachers of Chainbasha in connection with the death of a tusker at Majhigaon.
