Berhampur: Susanta Bisoyi, an accused in the murder of criminal Rabi Behera alias Chicken Rabi eight years ago, was attacked and injured by five unidentified goons on Lanjipalli Main Road in B.N. Pur police station area here on Sunday.
Susanta, his nephew Rajesh, Gopi Patra and another person suffered injuries when the miscreants, who came in three bikes, hurled three bombs on their car in which they were on the way to B.N. Pur police station to sign in the criminal register, police said.
A resident of Dhipa Sahi, Susanta was recently released on bail. The miscreants attacked them after the car in which he was boarding stop-ped on the road to give way to an earthmover. All the miscreants fled from the spot after the attack.
"We have identified the miscreants and they would be nabbed soon," said Berhampur additional police superintendent Shantanu Kumar Das.
"We have seized four live bombs and one bike near Durga Mandir Sahi Road, which is about 20-feet away from the spot. A forensic team has visited the spot to find clues. We have deployed teams at various checkposts as well," said Town sub-divisional police officer Prabhat Routray.
The police also examined closed-circuit television camera footage to ascertain the identity of the miscreants.
Chicken Rabi was murdered on January 1, 2010. He was shot dead in the house of Susant, one of his past acquaintances, at Lanjipalli on January 1, 2010. The police filed the chargesheet against nine accused, including former Sanakhemundi MLA and Congress leader Ramesh Jena, Susanta and others.
Subash Dash, Echili Panigrahi and Prafulla Panigrahi. Ramesh was arrested on May 13, 2010, from Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the murder and is considered to be the main conspirator.
