Bhubaneswar, July 11: A group of 20 students pursing self-financing courses at BJB Autonomous College have alleged gross anomalies in their mark sheets of various semesters.
They complained that while many of them were “wrongly” awarded zero in some subjects, some others had secured full marks or more in theory papers.
“There are a couple of students who have got 102 out of 100 in theory subjects despite more than half of the questions being out of syllabus. On the other hand, I had appeared for my practical exams and had done well, but have got zero,” said Himadri Mohapatra, a final-year student of electronics and telecommunication.
Rules say, if a student secures less than 25 marks in a subject, the mark sheet reflects zero in that paper.
“Many of us had scored more than 15 marks out of 20 in our internal exams. It is not possible that we secured below 10 marks in the main exams. A zero on our mark sheets would spoil our career prospects. Moreover, the exam controller has refused to show us our answer scripts,” said Amresh Pattanaik, another student.
Some students also alleged that the provisional certificates bore an inverted watermark image of the college logo without the students’ registration number and date of publication of results.
“Some mark sheets have been printed on recycled paper with a distorted college logo. Any recruiter would doubt our credentials,” said a third-year student of MSc bio-informatics.
They have also demanded the ouster of controller of examinations Chittaranjan Mishra, who denied having received any written complaint with regard to errors in awarding marks.
“If they have not got good marks, they must have performed badly in the exams. Other issues like inverted logo or entry of registration number on mark sheets can be sorted out if they file an application,” said Mishra.
Students, however, have threatened to launch a strike if the college authorities do not allow them to see their answer scripts and send the papers for re-checking.
