Bhubaneswar, Nov. 11: Kharavela Nagar police have registered a case following a complaint from a relative of a bank agent, who was attacked by some goons on Wednesday night near Satya Nagar overbridge.

The goons decamped with cash worth Rs 45,000 from the agent by slitting his throat. The police said they had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Mohan Kumar Bhuyan, is in a serious condition. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. According to the complaint, when Bhuyan was returning to his residence at Bomikhal about 11pm on Wednesday after collecting the cash, three goons attacked him near the Satya Nagar overbridge.

As he tried to resist them, the goons slit his throat and took away the cash from him. Bhuyan’s relatives said he drove to his house in spite of bleeding severely. Later, his family members admitted him to a private hospital.

Bhuyan usually collects money from the traders in areas of Saheed Nagar, Rabi Talkies and Cuttack Road. “Last night, he was returning home after collecting money from businessmen at Saheed Nagar, when the goons attacked him with a sharp weapon,” said Bhuyan’s cousin.

A senior police officer said that they had got the complaint and registered a case after spot verification. “We have started a man hunt and will arrest the accused at the earliest,” said the officer.
