Balangir, Oct. 17: The court of judicial magistrate first class of Kantabanjhi today issued a non-bailable warrant against inspector in charge of the local police station Amrita Nandini Mohanty for allegedly misbehaving with the chairperson of the Notified Area Council.

The court issued the warrant as neither the police officer nor her advocate appeared before the court for hearing. It is alleged that on July 29, chairperson of the Kantabanjhi council Dambarudhar Behera was returning home from a nearby village when the police stopped him as they were checking vehicles on the town outskirts.

In his complaint, Behera stated that inspector in charge of Kantabanjhi police station Amrita Nandini Mohanty was leading the squad. Behera alleged that the police officer misbehaved with him when he wanted to phone his friend to bring the documents of his two-wheeler to the place as he did not have them in his vehicle.

“The inspector abused me and took my vehicle to the police station,” Behera said.

The court admitted the complaint and summoned Mohanty to appear before it. Mohanty appeared before court and prayed for exemption of personal appearance in the court. But thereafter, neither the inspector nor her advocate had appeared before the court on the scheduled dates.

Mohan Sharma, counsel of the complainant, said the court had issued the warrant as neither the police officer nor her advocate appeared before it. While Mohanty refused to comment on the issue, Balangir superintendent of police R. Prakash said he would take any action after examining the legal side of the matter.
