B-school launches first graduate-level programme - Xavier University rolls out three-year courses in management & commerce, written test on May 25

Bhubaneswar, April 29: The Xavier University, Bhubaneswar, is all set to roll out three-year graduate programmes in commerce and management studies from the current academic year 2014-15.

It is for the first time in the country that a top B-school or university (including the XLRI or the IIMS) is launching a graduate programme (BCom), said the varsity officials. “The school of commerce of Xavier University will offer bachelor of commerce (accounting), bachelor of commerce (finance), bachelor of management studies (marketing) and bachelor of management studies (human resource),” said Father Paul Fernandes, vice-chancellor of the university.

The graduation programmes will have intake capacity of around 150-160 students for the programmes.

“The commerce programme offered by us will be unique in many ways. We ill not only focus on the quality but also try to prepare students according to the industry needs.

Moreover our programmes will have a lot of practicals, interactions and summer internship projects to prepare the students according to the market demands,” said senior commerce faculty professor P.K. Mohanty.

Interested candidates have to appear for a written test and selected candidates will be given admission to the respective programmes subject to fulfillment of the eligible criteria. The university has 50 per cent reservation for students from Odisha.

The written test has been scheduled on May 25 and will be held at three examination centres in Bhubaneswar, Calcutta and Delhi. The course fee for the three-year programme will be Rs 6 lakh and classes for bachelor programmes will start at the new campus that is likely to be inaugurated after the elections.

The varsity jointly promoted by the Jesuit Society and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), is coming up on 35 acres at Kurki industrial estate in Nijigardh village near Pipili.

Submission of application forms have started from April 15 and will end on May 15.

Results will be declared on the second week of June and classes will begin on July 14 , said the authorities. The varsity is soon planning to start Phd and integrated PhD programmes in CSR management, rural management, business management, public policy management.
