New Delhi, May 18: Former cricketer and BJP MP Kirti Azad today alleged foul play in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and threatened to go on hunger strike if the government failed to order a high-level probe.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad demanded that the tournament should be closed down. “IPL should be closed,” he told reporters outside Parliament House when asked to react on the spat between Shah Rukh Khan and Mumbai Cricket Association officials and other controversies surrounding the game.

Azad raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha in the backdrop of alleged molestation of a woman by an Australian player in IPL and charged that the tournament had turned cricket into “just entertainment”. Several MPs supported him chanting “shame..shame” when he spoke.

“It’s bizarre…IPL has turned into entertainment like cinema where there is a hero and villain…I urge you with folded hands to order a high-level probe…If it does not happen then from Sunday I will sit on an indefinite hunger strike outside Ferozshah Kotla,” the former cricketer said.

He raised the issue of the alleged molestation of a woman and also the Shah Rukh Khan incident to buttress his charge how IPL was surrounded by controversies.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, who has attacked IPL since long, stood in his support and urged the government to take it seriously. “IPL is just a drama. It is spoiling India’s culture,” he said.
