Bhubaneswar, Jan. 21: The second edition of the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Literary Meet came to a close today.

While the event began with cricket and moved onto the classics of literature, climate change took centre stage on the concluding day.

The day started with Subroto Bagchi addressing youngsters on ambition and self-belief during the Brainstorm With Bagchi session. He told the youth to be focused and about the alluring forest that is the Internet.

"One needs to harness information and garner as much resources as possible," he said as the audience listened with rapt attention.

The day's star attraction was Amitav Ghosh, who spoke about his latest book - The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable - and the threats of climate change.

"We have come to a very urgent situation where the need to understand the importance and effects of climate change cannot be ignored any longer," he said.

Ghosh also criticised the movement surrounding jallikattu in Tamil Nadu and condemned the use of animals in sport for human pleasure.

Just before Ghosh's session began, a few participants from the audience staged a protest against Tata Steel's project at Kalinga Nagar. The organisers sorted out the matter quickly, however, assuring them an audience after the event.

In another event, Rajit Kapur, Suman Mukhopadhyay and Sayeed Alam spoke about the sanctity of the script, centuries after Shakespeare changed the concept of stage play. Rajit said that when he first started, he was focussed on scripts. However, with time, other things began to gain more importance. Rajit said he still believed in the relevance of a good script and how it continues to hold importance on stage.

Gourahari Das's Odia translation of Benyamin's Goat Days was also released during the event.
