Angul, March, 25: Unable to pay electricity bill for its streetlights, Angul Municipality is facing threat of power supply disconnection from the Central Electricity Supply Utility (Cesu).
The Cesu executive engineer slapped a notice on the Municipality on March 8 asking it to pay the dues by March 20 to avoid disconnection of power supply to its 1,900 streetlights. Hurriedly, the municipality authorities paid Rs 2 lakh against its dues after the receipt of the notice.
“Our disconnection notice stands even now. We want immediate payment of Rs 9 lakh by March 31 as against the outstanding bill of nearly Rs 4 crore,” said Cesu executive engineer B.B. Mahanty.
He said there had been heavy pressure on them to collect dues from the municipality by the end of this fiscal.
As the municipality pleads inability to pay more as demanded by Cesu, residents are waiting anxiously to see what action will be taken by CESU as snapping of power supply to street lights will no doubt create law and order problem.
