US-bound

Around 35 students along with four teachers of SAI International School, Bhubaneswar is in the United States for a 15-day long sojourn. They left for the US on April 19 and will return on May 3.

The students will be visiting the Farmington High School in Connecticut and the Highland High School in Kentucky. They will engage themselves by exchanging thoughts and ideas.  The student exchange programme promises to have a great impact on the lives of the participating students, both in the short-term and for the rest of their lives.
The programme would prove to be an excellent opportunity for the students to gain new interests and also gain an appreciation for diversity, which is all the more important in India.  Students will get an opportunity to visit the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which is the American government agency responsible for civilian space programmes as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.

At NASA, the students will have the chance to ask a veteran astronaut about his experiences and what it is like to launch, live and work in space. The astronaut will be presenting a personalised presentation and will also answer questions that students have on their minds. Another worthwhile experience the students will remember for a lifetime is bound to be their participation at the Disney Youth Education Series at the Disney World, where they would indulge in creative thinking and open mindedness. It would also gauge their leadership skills to a great extent. Needless to say, the students will also have a day out at Disneyland, the biggest amusement park of the world and are going to have a whale of a time.

Cursive style

The Shining Stars Play School in Bhubaneswar is going to conduct a handwriting summer camp from May 4 to 15.  Students of six years and above will be taught how to improve their handwriting skills in this age of technology. With the introduction of gadgets at a very tender age, students often ignore their writing skills, particularly their handwriting, said organising member Neha Gupta.

This is a small effort to put an emphasis on the goodness of beautiful handwriting. The event will be conduct at two centres, one at Ie 335, Lewis road (near Jyote Motors) and the other at N2/69 IRC Village (near Ekamra Park). The event will conclude with a handwriting competition by the participating students. Certificates and prizes would galore for all the deserving students.

Earth Day observed

The DAV Public School at Unit 8, Bhubaneswar, observed the Earth Day to increase awareness among people regarding the protection of our environment. The NCC cadets of the army wing (boys and girls) and air wing (girls) reflected upon the contemporary environment issues through the display of placards. More than 200 students of the school participated in the programme. A signature campaign was also organised in which the public were involved to ensure a clean and green environment. The NCC officers of the school conducted the event: first officer Satyanarayan Hota, second officer RanjitaPati and third officer Helen Nayak.

Remembrance

Students, teachers and staff members of the Vidwan Concept School, Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar paid condolences to the late chief minister of Odisha Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, who breathed his last earlier this week. His immense contributions towards the development of Odisha were recalled and the students observed a silent prayer for the departed soul.
