Cuttack, Jan. 27: An amicable compromise was reached today at a meeting of the internal disciplinary authority between a fourth year student of SCB Medical College and Hospital and four fifth-year students who allegedly harassed her on January 25.

The guardians of the complainant and the accused students were present at the meeting.

The students have called a general body meeting tomorrow to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

"The issue has been amicably settled. The two sides will not pursue the matter further," said the administrative officer of the college Pratap Mishra after the meeting.

The meeting took place after police recorded the statement of 24-year-old student.

Her statement was also supposed to be recorded tomorrow before a judicial magistrate.

In her complaint, she had alleged that the fifth year students had misbehaved with her and had made derogatory remarks by confining her in the auditorium for more than an hour on January 25.

"We were watching a movie show organised by our audio-visual society when I had objected to a few students hurling abuses, using slangs and passing lewd comments during the screening. We had changed our seats too and later, I came to know that the students were actually our seniors," said the victim.

The victim further said: "Following the incident, the fifth-year students started to punish the boys of entire fourth-year batch and asked them to kneel down. Around 7pm on January 25, the seniors shouted and misbehaved with me in a disgraceful manner in front of around 200 students. For one-and-a-half hours, they continuously mentally harassed me and released after I was made to apologise by force."

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, a case under a case under Indian Penal Code Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (obscene act and words), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) has been registered by the police.

After lodging a complaint, the victim had also reported the matter to the higher officials of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
