Bhubaneswar: Chief election officer of Odisha D.N. Gupta on Monday held an all-party meeting for the Bijepur bypoll.

The filing of nomination papers will start from Tuesday with the issuance of notification of poll schedule.

Gupta said that around 2.21 lakh voters were expected to exercise their franchise at 270 polling booths during the bypoll on February 24.

He added that the general poll observers would start working from Tuesday, while the expenditure advisor would look into the allegation of violation of poll expense limit by contestants after the process of filing nomination papers was over.

"We are identifying sensitive and super-sensitive booths and the list will be published in a day or two. Extra security arrangements will be taken accordingly," said Gupta.

On Sunday, BJD leaders had gathered at Naveen Niwas, the residence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, to discuss the poll strategies. Rita Sahu, the party's official candidate, had announced that she would file the nomination papers on February 5.

In another development, a BJP delegation on Monday met the state's chief electoral officer and submitted to him a memorandum demanding transfer of Bargarh police superintendent and collector alleging that they were working as the party men of the BJD government.
