Bhubaneswar, Nov. 13: Badagada police found a female foetus from a drain in Brahmeswar Patna while Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered the body of an unidentified woman near the railway tracks at Bhimatangi area today. Local residents claimed she might have been murdered and dumped there.

In the first incident, the police said they had been informed about a foetus lying in a seven-feet deep drain near Brahmeswar temple.

“Our team rushed there and recovered the foetus from the drain,” said a police officer. The foetus was sent to Capital Hospital.

As it had started to decompose, the police said it was probably thrown two days ago.

“We are looking into the matter,” said the police officer.

Recovery of the female foetus has rocked the city. The incident comes at a time when several cases of recovery of abandoned female babies have been reported from Cuttack. Similarly, a female foetus was recently recovered in Balangir. In another incident, GRP cops found the body of a 35-year-old woman lying close to the tracks near the Lingaraj station.

As there were no injury marks on the body, the police suspect that she was murdered somewhere else and later dumped on the tracks.

“We have sent the body to Capital hospital. We are trying to ascertain her identity. Investigation is on,” said S.R. Kar, inspector in-charge of GRP, Bhubaneswar.

Similarly, on Saturday the Balianta police had recovered the body of a 30-year-old youth from Prataprudrapur area of the city. The body bore several injury marks on it. It was found near a bush beside a canal and some empty liquor bottles were also recovered from the spot.

The police are yet to establish the identity of the youth.

“We are trying to ascertain his identity and will know the exact cause of death after we get the post-mortem report,” a police officer said.
