Bhubaneswar: One of the suspects in the gang-rape of a minor girl in Koraput district on October 10 underwent a lie detector test at the State Forensic Laboratory in the city on Wednesday.
A source said a minor youth was one among the four accused detained by the police a few days ago. He was brought to Bhubaneswar for the lie detector test. "The decision to conduct a lie detector test was taken after the suspect, a cousin of the victim, was found to have accompanied her on the day of the crime," said a police official.
The 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint by four uniformed personnel in the Lanjiguda forest while she was on her way to school. The girl was allegedly sodomised by the accused, who had abandoned her in the forest. A source at the forensic laboratory said the minor was asked 25 questions during the test which lasted for more than five hours. During the test, the suspect was asked whether he accompanied the girl during the incident and whether he came across any security personnel while accompanying the girl.
However, deputy general of police R.P. Sharma said the involvement of either security personnel or Maoist in the crime was yet to be established.
