Paradip, July 10: A 27-year-old DTP operator from Jagatsinghpur district has achieved the rare feat of composing articles in 45 languages in a childrens’ magazine.

Computer-savvy Sandip Patra has composed for the magazine in Oriya, Hindi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannad, Urdu, Tamil, Sindhi, Punjabi, Marathi, Santhali, Malayalam, Nepali, Manipuri, Konkani, Koshali, Dogari, Kui, Bhojapuri, Kashmiri, Dam, Maithili, Assamese, Sindhi and other Indian languages.

Patra, who hails from Panisalia village near Jagatsinghpur, works as a clerk of the state government-run marketing cooperatives in Jagatsinghpur.“Whatever I have achieved today is because of Bijoy Mahapatra, the founder and editor of childrens’ magazine Suna Bhauni. He is my mentor and guru. He has edited and published the magazine in 45 languages and his name has figured in the list of Limca Book of Records,” said Patra.

“Neither am I a polyglot nor a linguist. I know a little bit of the languages loaded in my computer. It is simply workable knowledge. The vernacular language software loaded in my computer eases my composition work. But the task is difficult and arduous,” he said.

“Majority of the languages that I dabble with are completely foreign to me. But in the process, I am able to grasp some of the languages like Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi and Telugu. While composing the matter in these languages, I am now able to learn these languages. Composition of texts in Oriya, Bengali and Assamese is more difficult than the remaining Indian languages,” he said.

Patra is hopeful that the Limca Book of Records would recognise his feat. “The Limca Book of Records’ authorities have asked me to send my bio-data. I am optimistic that I will figure in the list of rare achievers of the Limca Book Of Records,” he said.

Patra, a postgraduate diploma holder in computer application, mostly devotes his leisure in composition work. After his office hours get over, he switches on the computer and plays with the languages.

“Many people called me eccentric for dabbling in this work with such passion. But they were silenced after my work received national recognition. People across the literary circles are mostly appreciative of my multi-language DTP composition skills,” he said.
