Sambalpur, May 20: The Sambalpur police today arrested a 20-year old man from Bihar and seized two pistols, four mousers, one revolver, eight single shot pistols and 20 live rounds of ammunition from him.
The police said the accused Bikash Singh, who has been procuring the weapons from Jharkhand and Bihar, had been supplying them in Sambalpur and adjoining areas.
Superintendent of police, Sambalpur, Asit Kumar Panigrahi, said in the last few years it had come to our notice that different kinds of weapons were being used in committing offences.
“Acting on a tip-off that an arms smuggler would be entering the area, we had sent a special police squad to Ainthapalli Chowk. On suspicion, the team searched Bikash Singh. He had hidden a mouser and a revolver in his body. Rest of the weapons were seized from the bag that he was carrying,” said Panigrahi.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Ara in Bihar for selling them to criminals of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sundergarh areas.
The police said the accused used to sell mousers and revolvers at prices ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 1lakh.
