Q I have a query regarding rectification of some vaastu problem in our new two-bedroom house. There is a pillar standing right in the centre of the flat. The rooms are not very spacious either. We are a family of three — my parents and IRight after shifting into this flat, none of us has been keeping well. My mother has become bed-ridden. My date of birth is 26.08.1983, (1.10am). A: The centre of the flat is the heart of the house known as tai chi in Feng shui and Brahmasthan in vaastu. The energy flowing from all the different directions merge here and radiate again into the whole house from this very point. Any kind of weight like stairs or pillars in the centre obstructs the free flow of this vital life force and deprives the residents of its nourishment, thus affecting their health.
You can panel it with mirrors from all sides. This will make the pillar disappear. The other option is to worship this area with a basket of five elements of nature where you can fill an earthen shallow pot with water, float some fresh flower petals in it, throw some metal coins in it and finally light a candle or earthen lamp in it. Every morning stand near the pillar with folded hands facing east and pray for the health of your family. Remember to visualise that everybody is enjoying good health.
According to your pillars of destiny, you are an extremely weak fire person with just one element of fire and none of wood to support you. At present you are under the influence of water, which in a positive sense gives you a change of residence and changes your lifestyle for the better but in a negative way brings lot of mental and physical pressure.
Wear and surround yourself with vibrant colours. Every morning you must worship the sun god, which is the ultimate source of fire, with water and a red flower. Light an earthen lamp in the mandir everyday and energise the east portion of the house with lot of fresh, green plants. Place a crystal tortoise on a glass plate with little water among the green plants. The Chinese strongly believe the tortoise is a symbol of longevity and when placed in the east of the house blesses its residents with a long and healthy life.
Q: We are planning to buy an old house and would like you to help us with guidance related to the entrance of the house when viewed from outside or inside.

A: A few points should be kept in mind regarding the entrance when viewed from the inside or outside:
The entrance should not be dark and depressing. The door should not be too narrow, compared to the rest of the house.
Too many tall trees in front of the door do not allow the cosmic energy to flow in and make it difficult even for the walls to breath.
The back door should not be in a straight line with the main door.
The door should not directly confront the staircases inside the house.
There should not be any obstruction in front, in the form of a tree, a pillar, lamppost, or water tank. The main door should not have a straight road leading to it.
Sharp corners of buildings across the road should not point at the main door.
The main door should not see the gap between two buildings across the road
