Guwahati, Sept. 7: Defending champions Western Railway today entered the men’s semi-finals of the ongoing 51st Men’s and 32nd Women’s All-India Railway Basketball Championship, organising by the NF Railway Sports Association, at its courts here.
The holders today defeated Rail Coach Factory 60-44 in the first quarter-final.
On Saturday evening, Western Railway men inflicted a 20-0 defeat on South Central Railway.
In another match on Saturday, hosts NF Railway posted a 77-62 win over Research Design and Standards Organisation in a group league match while South East Central Railway registered a narrow win of 68-61 against Southern Railway.
Diesel Loco Modernisation Works prevailed over West Central Railway 69-61.
In the women’s court on Saturday, South East Central Railway went down fighting to Western Railway 64-73 in a group league encounter.
The semi-finals will be played on Monday.
Friendship football: In the quarter-finals of the Friendship Football Tournament being organised by 128 Battalion of the CRPF at Khirod Baruah Stadium in Morigaon today, Morning Club edged past Baragihar Yuva Sangha 3-2 while Tiwa Autonomous Council prevailed over Rana Club 4-0.
