“We are all aware of the catastrophe caused by Covid-19. At this time of distress I am offering my bit to help fight this deadly virus. I am well aware of the risks associated with the test of vaccine on my body though I am doing this for the betterment of society at large,” Saikia said.

“We really appreciate the endeavour of this youth and have forwarded his application to the health ministry for doing the needful,” said Golaghat deputy commissioner Bibhas Chandra Modi.

Recently, the World Health Organisation has given its approval for a human challenge exercise that will involve over 20,000 individuals voluntarily getting infected with SARS-CoV-2 to advance vaccine development efforts.

According to WHO, human challenge studies have contributed enormously to scientific knowledge that has paved the way for the development of treatments, medicines and vaccines.
