Cuban film festival:

A special Cuban film festival, organised by Gauhati Cine Club in association with the directorate of cultural affairs, Assam, and the Film Federation of India, Calcutta, will be held from June 27 to 29 at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. Four famous Cuban films, La Vida es Silbar, Vampiror en la Habana, Amor Vertical and Oscar-nominated film Strawberry and Chocolate will be screened at the festival. The films will be screened on June 27 and 28 at 6 pm and on June 29 at 5 pm.

birds’ day:

Birds Day or Pakshi Divas, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bhubaneswar Sarma, editor of the first Assamese magazine on nature, will be observed by NGOs of the state, including Nature’s Observer, Assam Prakritik Kovi Sammelan, Prasanti and Chitrashilpi Sanstha, at 2 pm on July 3 at Basistha. Tree plantation, poet’s meet and seminar on birds will be held on the occasion.

Computers:

The department of electronic science of Gauhati University is organising a six-day training programme on maintenance of personal computer from September 15 to 20.

A certificate course in basic computer application will be held at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati, from July 1. For details contact 2302646, 2300840.

Bravery award:

The Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW), New Delhi, is inviting nominations for the national bravery award, 2003 in the age group of six to eight years. The incident of bravery should occur between July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003. The forms are available at the office of the ICCW, Assam state branch, GNB Road, Ambari, Guwahati.

Photography training:

The Indian Council for Child Welfare, Assam state branch, will organise a 15-day photography training from July 7 for students of Class VIII at Hem Barua Sishu Sadan, Ulubari, Guwahati.

Music classes:

The Nehu creative arts unit will conduct casual classes in music for both old and fresh students from July 8 every Tuesday and Friday from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Drama COURSE:

competitions:

The botanical hobby centre of the department of botany, Cotton College, Guwahati, is holding a prize-money essay competition on Threats and Challenges of Biodiversity Conservation in Northeast India. The deadline for the essay, written either in English or Assamese within 1,500 words, is July 30.
