Agartala, Nov. 22: Altogether 35 students were afflicted with acute diarrhoea as a result of food-poisoning in Nabodaya residential school at Ramchandra Ghat in Khowai subdivision, after consuming contaminated butter and vegetables.

A three-member medical team rushed to theNabodaya school hostel yesterday and brought the situation under control.

The school authorities took time to requisition help from thesubdivisional headquarters at Khowai. Sources said the district magistrates are the ex officio administrators of all Nabodaya schools but in the absence of the district magistrate, the BDO (Khowai) Pradip Acharjee was in charge. But it was the SDO (Khowai) who sent the medical team.

Official sources from Khowai said that the sick students were recovering, adding that the matter would be brought to the notice of DM (West) Ashutosh Jindal after his return to the state.
