Hailakandi: Silchar MP and All India Mahila Congress Committee president Sushmita Dev demanded a solution of the issue of family trees in the district.

Dev met registrar general and census commissioner of India, Sailesh, in New Delhi and handed over a memorandum in this regard. Dev said according to the government report submitted to the Supreme Court, discrepancies and mismatches have been found in the family trees of 48 lakh people. She alleged that people of Barak Valley, particularly in Cachar district, are being called from places like Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Nagaon and Guwahati for hearing on specific time and dates.

The update of NRC, to weed out foreigners illegally staying in the state, is going on in Assam under the Supreme Court's monitoring. The first draft list of NRC was published on December 31 last year and the complete draft will come out in June.
