Youths shine

Imphal: Young Welfare Club, Langthabal, won the champions’ title of the 6th S. Ronika Devi Junior Girls’ Football Tournament defeating Kangchup Road Youth Physical Athletic Association by 2-1goals at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Thursday. S. Pramodini and Ph. Bina converted two penalties for Young Welfare, while Y. Premi Devi netted the lone goal for Kangchup.

SSU triumph

Imphal: Southern Sporting Union steamrolled Takhel Youth Welfare Organisation by 11-0 goals in the 2nd Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Invitation Football Tournament at Eastern Shine ground in Moreh on Thursday.

Thermal win

Nagaon: Thermal Sport Club, Salakati, entered the quarter-finals of the 14th Assam Club Championship football meet defeating Sanjiban Samaj by 4-1 goals in a second round match at Sariahjan in Bokajan on Thursday. They will now meet Moran Town Club in the first quarter-final on March 4.

Squad named

Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Thursday named the state squad for the Twenty20 knockout tournament slated to be held at Indore from March 12. Mumbai recruit Amol Muzumdar and ace spinner Arlen Konwar were “rested”, while outstation professional Dheeraj Jadhav was named skipper in place of Muzumdar. The squad: Dheeraj Jadhav (capt.), Kunal Saikia (wk), Dhiraj Goswami, Sairaj Bahutule, Amit Sinha, Pritam Debnath, Parvez Aziz, Arminder Singh Oberoi, Rajdeep Das, Deepak Sharma, Swarupam Purkayastha, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Arup Das, Ranjit Mali and Sujoy Tarafdar. Manager: Tapan Sarmah, Coach: Subhadeep Ghosh, Stand-byes: Rishab Das, Pritam Das, Abhijit Singha Roy, Sekhar Jyoti Barman and Shiv Shankar Roy.
