Guwahati, June 19: Jayant Kumar, correspondent of Star News in the Northeast, passed away at a private nursing home here this afternoon after a brief illness.

He was 46 and leaves behind his wife Radha, a daughter, son, two brothers and two sisters.

Born in Hajipur in Bihar, Kumar completed his PhD in history from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, before he became a journalist.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, the All Assam Students Union and Assam PCC have deeply condoled his death.

Kumar’s cremation will take place tomorrow.
