Sarbaibandha make it to final

Jorhat, Oct. 23: Sarbaibandha High School from Jorhat sailed into the finals of the Dilip Sarma Memorial Inter-district School Cricket tournament at the Jorhat stadium here today, defeating S.P. English Medium High School, Dhubri by four wickets in the first semi-final match.

Md Ali shone with both bat and ball and was adjudged Man of the Match for his four-wicket haul and an unbeatable 14-run score.

Electing to bat first, the Dhubri school side managed to score 95 runs, losing all their wickets in 32.3 overs. Surbhajyoti Paramanik scored 34 runs, the highest runs for his team. Manoj Choudhury and Nitish Ranjan Das scored 13 runs each.

Md Ali of the Jorhat side took a four-wicket haul in seven overs, conceding just 14 runs in the process. Pulak Sechua and Krishna Gogoi provided equal support to Ali, chipping in with two wickets each. Both the bowlers conceded only nine runs each in their six and 5.3-over spells respectively.

The Jorhat boys batted with confidence and reached the modest target of 96 in 32 overs, losing six wickets in the process. Partha Dutta contributed 16 runs, while Ali remained not out on 14.

Winning would have been harder for the Jorhat boys if the Dhubri school had not conceded 37 extra runs.

Monojit Pal Choudhury scalped three wickets in his seven-over spell, while Surbhajyoti Paramanik took two wickets.

In another match at the JDSA ground, Sivasagar Government High School beat PR Government High School, Goalpara by 111 runs.

Batting first, Sivasagar opening batsmen Swaroj Gogoi and Abhinab Konwar sent the Goalpara boys on a leather hunt and completed a half-century each in the process. Swaroj remained not out for 82, which included six boundaries and four sixes. Abhinab scored 51 runs.

Piki Banik was the best bowler from the Goalpara side. He bagged six wickets and conceded 30 runs in his seven-over spell.

The Goalpara boys managed to score only 80 runs and were bundled out in just 20.1 overs. Piki and Ahidur Alam scored 18 runs each.

Shiva Phukon took five wickets for Sivasagar, conceding 20 runs in his seven over spell, while Swaroj took two wickets.

Tomorrow, Guwahati will take on Koliabor, while Dibrugarh will play Lakhimpur.
