Guwahati, May 24: Hosts Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti (SBGJ) School C team annexed the champion’s title in the inter-school team chess championship, organised by Shatranj, the in-house chess club of the school, at the SBGJ School premises here today.

The SBGJ boys tallied 15 points from the five-round tournament for the title while Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara finished runners-up with 12 points and Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Rajgarh ended with 10 points for the third place.

Tridib Buragohain of KVK was adjudged the Best Playerof the tournament.

The two-day introductory edition of the tournament got eight leading schools of the city to participate.

Senior state chess player Krishna Dutta and SBGJ principal Anubha Goyal attended the presentation ceremony as guests and conferred the prizes.

This was the first time that an inter-school team championship was held in Assam, although regular inter-school individual meets were being held at periodic intervals in the state.
