Shillong, Nov. 11: Riatsamthiah were crowned champions of the Shillong Sports Association's second division football tournament with a 4-0 victory over Nongrim Hills at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.

Both clubs had already qualified for next season's first division after finishing at the top of the league, but Riatsamthiah were able to cap off their success and grab bragging rights by thrashing their opponents.

Banmanroy Nongsiej put Riatsamthiah, who will return to the first division after a gap of 29 years, in the lead via a penalty in the 15th minute, while Barikupar Khongjoh made it 2-0 in the 36th minute.

Riatsamthiah were by far the better team today, with Nongrim Hills failing to control the ball well and make use of their chances.

The second half looked a more sedate affair until John Dkhar (73rd, 74th) brought it to life with a brace. Both were incredibly similar - Dkhar being fed through balls that he was able to slot past the opposition goalkeeper after sprinting on the right flank past the defenders.
