Rated players take lead - Determined Bhaskarjyoti holds Rishidip of DPS to a tame draw

Guwahati, Oct. 14: Five of the six Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)-rated players are leading in their group with three points each on completion of the third round of the Indian Oil-sponsored 2nd All-Assam School Chess Championship at Tirthanath Sarma Sabhaghar at Chandmari here today.

Four of those leading in queen group are defending champions Debasish Dutta of Disneyland School, Indraneel Talukdar of Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya (both from Guwahati), Rajat Rajkhowa of St Xavier’s School (Duliajan) and Indrajit Handique of Sankardev Vidyaniketan School (Demow).

Another rated player — defending champion Krishnasis Gogoi of Sankardev Academy (Guwahati) is leading the knight group with three points, but the other rated participant in the group, Rishidip Bordoloi of DPS, Duliajan, was held to a draw by a determined Bhaskarjyoti Neog of Guwahati’s Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya.

Mahashweta Kumar of Vidyaniketan MR School, Mangaldoi was also in the lead with three points in the knight group.

The other participants with three points each in the knight group are Ananya Gogoi of Adarsh Jatiya Vidyalaya (Demow), Sudeshna Sarma of Happy Montessori School (Guwahati), and Debanga Kaushik Bhattacharjee of Maria’s Public School (Guwahati).

Those leading in the pawn group with three points are Hemanga Mahanta of Maharishi Vidyalaya, Natasha Dutta of Disneyland School (Guwahati) and Dipu Pradhan of St Peter’s School, Nazira. Players trailing them with 2.5 points each are Salim Raja of Victoria English School and Kabyaneel Talukdar of Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya (Guwahati).

Altogether 126 students from 51 schools are participating in the four-day championship that will conclude on Thursday.

Lawn bowl meet

The two-day second inter-district Lawn Bowl Championship will be held at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati from October 18, Assam Lawn Bowling Association secretary Naba Basumatary said.
