Shillong, Oct. 17: Bansharai Sun scored four goals on the way to his club Rangdajied United FC's 9-2 victory over Nongkrem in the Shillong Premier League today and put his name forward as a strong contender for this season's Golden Boot award.
Sun scored in the 19th, 69th, 84th and 87th minutes to take his tally to nine goals in the highest-scoring match of SPL 2016, putting him on a par with Meghalaya Police's Niwan-o Gatphoh.
Rangdajied's foreign player James Moga also recorded a hat-trick (30th, 24th and 46th minutes) as Nongkrem suffered their 12th consecutive defeat in what is their first season of the SPL. Nadong Bhutia and Khwetelhi Thopi also scored one each in the goal fest.
Gameliel Lyngdoh and Nansei L. Nongbri were Nongkrem's goal scorers, though their efforts were only able to provide some consolation in the one-sided encounter.
Rangdajied now have 25 points from 12 outings and are in second place behind Shillong Lajong (26 points from 11 matches). Lajong had defeated Royal Wahingdoh 2-0on Saturday.
Lajong will be back in action tomorrowwhen they take on Nangkiew Irat at3pm.
Subroto Cup:After an impressive run of four victories, Shillong Lajong exited the under-17 division of the Subroto Cup in New Delhi, losing to Clube Atletico Paranaense of Brazil 2-0 today.
