Shillong, March 19: The leader of the Opposition, Donkupar Roy, today commented upon the Meghalaya government's apathy towards a state dispensary named after the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
The state government had established the Nehru Memorial State Dispensary at Mawlai Nongpdeng under Mawlai Assembly constituency.
"The dispensary is still functioning from a rented building. The state government should take steps to construct a permanent building," the Leader of the Opposition said during question hour in the Assembly.
Health minister A.L. Hek, who earlier ruled out the need to have a permanent building for the dispensary, changed his mind following the observations made by Roy.
"We welcome the suggestion of the Leader of the Opposition and we will look into it," Hek said.
To a question by Mawlai legislator Embhahlang Syiemlieh regarding the status of the dispensary, Hek told the Assembly that the dispensary was functioning from a rented building with a staff of seven.
