Tribute to Dhemaji victims

Filmmaker Jahnu Barua has dedicated his film Tora, which bagged the national award for best children’s film, to those children who lost their lives in the Dhemaji blast on Sunday. arua said, “It has saddened me that the incident occurred on a day when an Assamese film bagged the best children’s film award. I dedicate this award to those children who lost their lives in the incident.”

Rebels kill 3

Police sources said in Kohima on Thursday that two unidentified persons were gunned down at Longleng by suspected NSCN(K) militants. In another incident, an NSCN(I-M) militant was killed by an NSCN(K) rebel in Mokokchung.

RI for rape

Deputy commissioner of North Cachar Hills district Anil Kumar Baruah sentenced Subinay Paul to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for raping a minor girl.

Green concern

Meghalaya chief minister D.D. Lapang stressed the need to stop deforestation at the inauguration of a forest officers’ conference in Shillong on Thursday. He also informed that the Centre’s Bomboo Technology Mission was being implemented in the state.

Training camp

Troops of the army’s Red Horns division conducted vocational training in tailoring, typing, driving, welding, computer and vehicle repairing. Twenty candidates from eight districts of Assam attended the course.

Haflong plea

A general meeting was held at Haflong on Thursday, condemning the killing of children in rebel attacks and appealing the terrorist outfits to shun violence and join the mainstream.

Child relief

Members of the Assam unit of Anglo-Indian Association distributed relief to children affected in areas of Kamrup district. Baby food, and other essential items were distributed among the children.

Fish export

A workshop was held at the directorate of agriculture, Shillong, on plausible strategies of exporting ornamental fishes from Meghalaya.
