Karbi boy held for false FIR

A red-faced Karbi Anglong police said on Thursday that they have booked a 23-year-old Karbi youth, who had filed an FIR stating that eight of his family members were killed by the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) rebels on Tuesday at Thekarajan, under Hauraghat police station. But on inquiry, the police found that the boy had cooked up the story. B.S. Kuki, a division commander of the KRA, condemned such rumour-mongering and said the outfit did not kill women and children.

Wife killed

Anisha Bibi, who was allegedly set on fire by her husband at their Modhusoulmari village home on Wednesday night, died at the Dhubri civil hospital. Anisha succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. Her father has lodged a complaint at Gouripur police station accusing his son-in-law Samsul Islam of killing Anisha.

Highway funds

The Union ministry of shipping, road transport and highways has approved Rs 3361.62 lakhs for the improvement of national highways in Assam. The funds will be utilised in repairing NH 37, 38, 39, besides maintaining cross drainage and minor bridges.

Absu secy

Secretary of the All Bodo Students? Union (Absu) Gautam Mushahary, injured in a road mishap in Assam?s Kokrajhar district on Wednesday night, was admitted to the Guwahati Neurological Reserach Centre on Thursday. His colleague Raman Brahma was also admitted to a hospital in Bongaigaon with injuries.

The Meghalaya Diploma Engineers? Service Association on Thursday observed Engineers? Day on its office premises at Lower Lachumiere in Shillong.
