Nearly 20 students participated in the essay competition in two groups. The subjects were: A day without telephones and Reaching out with telecom. It was followed by a quiz competition in which several educational institutions of the city participated. Dilip Baruah, former principal of Cotton College, was the quizmaster.Refresher course

The team members visited the college and assessed the various departments of both arts and science faculties, including the facilities provided to students. They also inspected both theory and practical classes, asked teachers and students various questions and interacted with students and guardians and alumni. The exit meeting held in the college was attended by 600 members, comprising senior citizens, guardians, alumni, teachers, employees and students of the college. Addressing the meet, K.N. Madhusudanan Pillai expressed satisfaction on the overall performance of the college. G. Dutta Sharma, chairman of the council, outlined the need to introduce job-oriented courses in the college. He appealed to teachers to be committed in their profession and improve the quality of higher education.New course in Cotton College
The course has been introduced for the first time by a college in the Northeast. Gauhati University had included the subject in its syllabus a few years ago.Seminar on erosion
Speaking at the seminar as the appointed speaker, Jogendra Nath Sarmah, professor, department of applied geology, Dibrugarh University, outlined the possible threat perception which the river is assumed to pose in the next few years towards the two districts because of largescale erosion. Making a presentation with the help of slides and remote-sensing maps, Sarmah said Dibrugarh town would one day face the river’s ire if the authorities continued to neglect the problem. Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Kulendu Pathak addressed the seminar as the chief guest. DHSK College ex-principal Dimbeswar Chaliha and former IAF pilot Mahendra Nath Borthakur were also present at the seminar which was conducted by the librarian in-charge of the university, Sudhir Nath.
