Dhubri, Dec. 14: Subal Chandra Roy, 35, of Basantipur village under Tamarhat police station of Dhubri district died when a speeding truck hit his bicycle at Basantipur teeniali last night. Dhubri: The Dhubri district administration acquired a plot of land measuring 10 bigha, 4 katha and 10 lechhas from land owners for the proposed river port in Dhubri on Tuesday. The land will be handed over to Inland Water Authority of India (IWAI) for construction navigation terminus, an official source said. Guwahati: A sessions court sentenced five members of a family to life imprisonment on Tuesday for killing two of their neighbours at Hajo in Kamrup district in 2005. Besides life imprisonment, all the accused were ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 each. The convicts had hacked the victim to death over some dispute. Silchar: Mizoram police and Assam police raided a house in the Mission Veng locality in Aizwal on Tuesday and recovered 23 SIM cards of a mobile phone company and some incriminating documents.
