Guwahati, Feb. 15: Navajyoti Club turned the final of the Bud Cricket Club-organised 3rd Dhireswar Kalita T20 challenge meet into a grossly one-sided affair, led by Man of the Match Bhaskarjyoti Barman’s three for 16 and a masterful 37 off 29 balls by Arminder Singh Oberoi.

Navajyoti made 103 for four in 13.4 overs to win by six wkts.

Barman’s 16 for three in four overs and Bikash Chetri’s 26 for two in four overs restricted GTC to a paltry 100 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

Only Amjad Ali (an unbeaten 24 off 18 balls) and Deep Borah (22 off 23 balls) made some contribution of note with the bat on a pitch which was good for much more.

The GTC batting and fielding was sloppy during critical moments in the low-scoring game.

Arminder Singh led the Navajyoti charge during the chase after the early dismissal of seasoned batsman Nishanta Bordoloi for four.

The young and talented player, who played most of his cricket on the ground, took the GTC attack to the cleaners.

His straight six off medium pacer Debabrata Roy, the loft to the wide midwicket off Palashjyioti Das and the four to the point off Ranjit Mali were a treat to watch.

However, he needs to tighten his game, particularly in playing according to the requirements of the team, if he wants to force his way into the state senior T20.

He hit three fours and two sixes.

Binayak Uthappa picked up from where Arminder had left, with a 21-off-21-ball cameo.

Mrigen Talukdar, who has remained unbeaten in all his five innings, wrapped up the proceedings with a four in the 13.4 overs to ensure a very convincing six-wicket win for Navajyoti.

Nishanta Bordoloi (160 runs in four innings) was adjudged the Best Batsman, Sekharjyoti Barman (nine wickets in five matches) the Best Bowler, Abhijit Singha Roy (three run-outs, two wickets) the Best Fielder and Mrigen Talukdar (84 runs, five wickets) the Man of the Series.

Navajyoti bagged Rs 20,000 for the win and GTC went home richer by Rs 11,000.

The Assam Cricket Association today accorded recognition to the Bud Cricket Club-organised meet, ACA secretary Bikash Baruah announced during the prize distribution ceremony.

“I assure you that the meet will be officially recognised because it is well organised according to our rules. Moreover, the players are also happy with the arrangements. To improve cricket we need to organise such meets,” Baruah said.

The announcement is important because the ACA had recently announced that it would not allow any registered players to play in meets not recognised by it.

The meet is one of the main draws at the stadium given the professional handling by the organisers, most of whom themselves have been players or are still playing. Bud also organises a 40-over meet.

Baruah exhorted the state players to concentrate on physical conditioning and learn from players like Dheeraj Jadhav.
