Guwahati, March 15: Defending champions Navajyoti Club inflicted a 129-run defeat on City Cricket Club in a match of the Madhab Ram Bora Guwahati Sports Association first-division cricket league at Nehru Stadium here.
Batting first, Navajyoti piled up a challenging total of 233 runs for three wickets in 35 overs and later bundled out the City batsmen for 104 runs.
For Navajyoti Club, Nishanta Bordoloi (61), Jnan Boro (50), Jibonjyoti Rajkhowa (42) and Bitop Mahanta (39) were the notable scorers. Romario Sharma of City notched up two wickets for 29 runs.
He also topscored for City Cricket Club with 38 runs, while Chandan Jha chipped in with 21. Bhaskar Jyoti Barman of Navajyoti hauled five wickets for 14 runs while Bitop Mahanta claimed two for 21.
In another scheduled match, Bud Cricket Club were awarded a walkover when their opponents, Santipur Athletic Club, failed to report for the match.
The tournament will remain suspended indefinitely from tomorrow because of unavailability of Nehru Stadium ground, said GSA cricket secretary Bablu Choudhury.
