Dibrugarh, Dec. 8: A young medium pacer today created a sensation in the Dibrugarh University Inter-College Cricket Tournament under way in Upper Assam.
Nalin Chetia from Dhakuakhana College single-handedly won the match for his team, taking all the 10 wickets while bowling a dream spell of six overs, five maidens and giving away just a single run.
The Group F match was played between Dhakuakhana College and Lakhimpur Commerce College at North Lakhimpur College playground today.
Dhakuakhana scored 132 losing eight wickets in 35 overs.
Nalin’s fiery spell restricted Lakhimpur Commerce College to 23 all out in 11.2 overs, taking his team into the quarter-final.
“It was a real treat to watch a young bowler grabbing all 10 wickets. If groomed properly, this boy will be an asset for our state in the future,” Biman Chetia, a lecturer of North Lakhimpur College, said.
In Group B, Naharkatia College reached the quarter-final, defeating Duliajan College by seven wickets in the zonal final at Naharkatia College playground today.
Duliajan College decided to bat first and scored 107, losing all their wickets in 25.5 overs.
Pradip Upadhaya scored 42 while Rupam Dutta made 28. For Naharkatia, off-spinner Pritam Das captured seven wickets for 32 runs while Ajay Shah took two for 13.
Naharkatia College scored 109 losing three wickets in 18.3 overs.
Ajay Shah scored an unbeaten 47 off 47 balls while Suraj Chaturvedi remained unbeaten on 19.
Assam Medical College booked a quarter-final berth defeating PG Classes of Dibrugarh University by 70 runs in a Group A match played at the Dibrugarh University playground.
AMC won the toss and scored 180, losing six wickets in 30 overs.
Anees N. Sangma remained unbeaten on 39 while Ryan Sangma scored 37. PG Classes were bundled out for 110 in 25.3 overs. Naba Jyoti Das made 32.
For AMC, Bikash Anand took 4 for 15.
In a Group C match at the Gargaon College playground, Sibsagar College defeated Bir Lachit Borphukon College by five wickets.
