Aizawl, Sept. 23: The Mizo victims of the 1994 Mizoram riots have threatened to agitate and block the Aizawl-Silchar National Highway if the state government fails to fulfil their demand for compensation.
Though there was selective targeting of non-Mizos in the state during the riots, its repercussions were also faced by tribals of Mizoram who were settled outside or were out of the state at that time.
The protesters alleged that while all the non-Mizo victims of the violence had received full compensation from the Assam and Mizoram governments, the Mizos were still to get their due from any state government.
Apart from the kin of Lalsangzuala, the Mizo driver whose killing sparked off the violence, none of the Mizo sufferers were given any assistance by the Assam or Mizoram government, alleged V. Latfela Ralte, one of the victims of mob violence.
He said Rs 1,56,24,650 has been disbursed among 168 non-Mizo riot-affected claimants.
