Meghalaya names squad

Shillong, Nov. 26: The Meghalaya Cricket Association today announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming under-22 Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Associate Members’ Tournament, 2010-11, to be held at Raipur, Chattisgarh, from December 1.

The players who will represent Meghalaya at the tournament are Babloo Passah (captain), Raj Biswa (vice-captain), Shellingstar Thabah, Aditya Singhania, Laxman Chetri (wicketkeeper), Barendor Rynjah, Basu Chetri, Arabinda Basumatry, N.N. Deka Raja (wicketkeeper), Dathew Syngkon, Lurshai Syiemlieh, Carinbirth Sangma, Fazuluddin, Rajesh Oraon and Dharmendra Kholia.

Mark Ingty has been chosen as the coach while Mawlynnai Marbaniang will be the manager. In addition to last year’s category of under-16 and under-19, two more categories have been added to the tournament. These include the under-22 and women’s category.

Meghalaya will be participating in all the four categories, said honorary general secretary of the association, Naba Bhattacharjee.

Bhattacharjee said the association would be hosting the inaugural women’s tournament in Shillong from December 5-17 while the Meghalaya team will also participate in the under-22 and 16 categories in Raipur.

Bhattacharjee said a notable feature of this year’s tournament is that the champion teams from under-22 and under-19 categories shall be promoted to play in the Plate Group of C.K. Nayudu Trophy and Vinoo Mankad Trophy from the next season.
