Mainao dies
Kokrajhar, July 29: Mainao, the first rhino to be translocated to Manas National Park in 2006, has died. The carcass of the 13-year-old female rhino was recovered this morning by park officials from the Abwidhora camp under Bhuyapara range. She had been ailing for a long time and become weak.
A source said the rhino was found to be weak during a health check-up on July 23 and given some medicines.
Body found
Guwahati: The body of an unidentified woman, who appears to be in her late twenties, was found at Adabari Tiniali here around 12.30am on Friday. The body will be preserved at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for 72 hours for identification.
Death
Guwahati: Bolen Kalita, 48, a patient admitted to the surgery ward of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, who fell from the second floor of the hospital late Thursday evening, succumbed to his injuries early on Friday morning. Police are yet to confirm whether it was a suicide, accident or foul play.
Woman dies
Jorhat: Tarulata Bora, 50, a resident of Bohotia gaon under Pulibor police station on the western outskirts here, died on Friday after she slipped into the pond where she had gone to fetch water.

Dibrugarh: Forest officials on Friday morning caught a leopard at Demow, Derai Habi 8 tea garden.

Guwahati: The full session of the sixth executive of Asam Sahitya Sabha will be held on Sunday at Gohpur Girls' Higher Secondary School in central Assam's Sonitpur district.
Memorandum
Guwahati: Bodo Sahitya Sabha on Friday submitted a memorandum to Union home minister Rajnath Singh urging him to release Rs 1,000 crore to Assam as special package. They requested him to sanction Rs 5 lakh to each flood-affected family and ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the immediate kin of the victims.

Guwahati: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad on Friday demanded an urgent measure by the Centre to declare Assam flood and erosion as a national calamity.
Check on pigs
Silchar: The Mizoram government has decided to set up animal checkposts in international border areas as well as inter-state borders to stop the import of pigs in the state. The decision was taken following the outbreak of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, which killed over 3,500 pigs in the past few months in the state.

Silchar: A 42-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter were killed in landslides at Ngur village in Champhai district of Mizoram on Friday. The victims were identified as Dawmsenmuangi and Lenchiansangi.

Drug haul
Guwahati: Basistha police arrested one Laskar Ali, 40, from Lokhra on Friday and recovered 40.5kg cannabis from him. Ali was carrying the contraband in an autorickshaw when he was arrested.
