Premier League
Shillong, Oct. 6: Langsning moved to within a point of the top spot in the Shillong Premier League today with a 1-0 victory over Malki at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.
Bickyson Kharkongor scored the lone goal of the tight contest in the 40th minute to move his side to 19 points. Table leaders Shillong Lajong have 20 points and a match in hand.
Malki had won the reverse fixture at the start of the season 1-0 and a comparison of the two teams shows that while Langsning started poorly, they have bounced back, with Malki witnessing a reversal of fortunes.
Langsning have won four of their last five outings, while Malki have picked up just two points from their last five games. Malki may be over- relying on a few key individuals up at front: only four players have scored this season, the fewest among any of the teams in the top half of the league.
The 2013 runners-up are in fifth place and have just 14 points after 10 matches and will be under further pressure if Nangkiew Irat manage to win against Rangdajied tomorrow.
That game kicks off at 3pm. Rangdajied had edged past 1-0 in the reverse fixture at the end of August.
